About the Project
Advanced diagnostic and treatment centres have a much higher power density than general hospitals. Equipment such as MRI, CT and radiotherapy systems draws high power and is extremely sensitive to voltage quality. Together with their cooling plant, cleanrooms, laboratories and operating theatres, this gives the facility a dense and continuous load profile. Moscow’s long winters increase heating and ventilation demand, while outages on the 10 kV network must be covered by the building’s own backup capacity.
For a medical centre of this scale, the typical solution is a sectionalised architecture in which four transformers feed two main busbar groups. Each group is sized so that, if one transformer is lost, the remaining units can carry the critical load. Two generators capable of parallel operation, together with UPS systems, support the medical loads on the safety busbar. Form 4a to Form 4b separation allows maintenance across the large facility without interrupting care.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
Devpan’s scope covers the complete low-voltage system, from the four transformer outgoers to the boards serving clinical, diagnostic and technical areas.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2 × 3,200 A busbar groups, 65 kA / 1 s, Form 4a – Form 4b, couplers and synchronised generator transfer.
- Motor control centres (DevControl): chillers, air handling units, equipment cooling systems and pumps.
- Sub-distribution boards (DevBox): distribution for imaging, treatment, surgical and ward floors.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): detuned, fast-stepping reactive power compensation.
- Lighting and power panels (DevPower): clinical areas, public areas and emergency lighting circuits.

Devpan Products Used in This Project
Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Four-transformer redundancy
Transformers are split across two busbar groups, and remaining capacity after the loss of any one unit is planned to carry critical loads.
High-power diagnostic equipment
Imaging and treatment systems are fed from separate low-impedance outgoers to limit voltage drop and interaction.
Parallel generator plant
Two synchronised generators feed the safety busbar; if one fails, service continues through load prioritisation.
Power quality
Detuned compensation and monitoring devices keep harmonic levels and voltage unbalance under continuous control.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the installed power of Hadassah Medical Centre Skolkovo?
For a medical centre of this scale, the installed power is approximately 6,400 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 4 × 1,600 kVA. Main busbars are typically rated 2 × 3,200 A with 65 kA / 1 s withstand, supplied at 10 kV and backed by 2 × 1,250 kVA generators.
Why are imaging systems fed by dedicated lines?
They draw short bursts of high current and are sensitive to voltage drop. Dedicated low-impedance feeders protect both the equipment’s performance and the supply to other loads.
Why do large medical centres use several generators?
Multiple generators increase total backup capacity and keep priority loads supplied while one unit is under maintenance or out of service.
