Service & Maintenance

Service and maintenance is what determines a switchboard’s life in the field. Devpan offers a separate commissioning service for the panels it builds and, for the operating phase, 2-year maintenance contracts. While a contract is in force, Devpan is responsible for resolving every problem on the panel that is not caused by the user. Retrofit work for needs that arise later is handled by the same service department.

Service

Commissioning Service

Devpan offers a dedicated service for energizing and commissioning its panels on site. The service draws on the knowledge of the engineering team that prepared the panel’s production file: the field team knows the panel’s single-line diagram, control schematics and bill of materials before arriving on site.

Commissioning covers a series of steps: post-transport inspection, verification of connections and labeling, review of protection and metering circuits, and functional tests. The goal is to hand over the panel working exactly as defined in the design file.

The checks carried out at the end of commissioning are recorded. This record also serves as the baseline for maintenance during operation.

Field team

The team that builds the panel also looks after it on site.

Our service department works from the same project file as our production and engineering teams. Any issue found on site is assessed together with the panel’s design and production history.

Work carried out during commissioning and maintenance visits is recorded against the panel’s identification data, and later visits continue from the same record.

Because the same team also handles later retrofit needs, every change made to the panel remains traceable.

Process

Commissioning Steps

Commissioning is a chain of checks that starts when the panel arrives on site and ends with handover to the operator. The steps below are carried out against the values defined in the project file.

Transport and Positioning Check

When the panel arrives on site, the enclosure, doors, gaskets and locks are checked for transport damage. The layout, cable entry direction and earthing connection are verified against the project.

Connection and Torque Checks

Power and control connections, busbar joints and terminal connections are checked against the project values; labeling and cable numbering are compared with the schematics.

Verification of Protection and Metering Circuits

Protection device settings, the polarity of current and voltage transformer connections and the continuity of secondary circuits are checked.

Functional Tests

Control, interlocking, signaling and, where applicable, automation communication are tested against the scenarios defined in the design file.

Energization and Handover

Once the checks are complete, the panel is energized step by step; the work and observations are recorded and the panel is handed over to the operator.

Contract

How Does the Maintenance Contract Work?

Devpan maintenance is set up as a contractual relationship rather than a one-off intervention. Maintenance agreements are concluded as 2-year contracts.

While the contract is in force, Devpan is responsible for resolving every problem on the panel that is not caused by the user. This obligation covers issues arising from the panel’s design, manufacture and installation.

User interventions, unauthorized modifications, operating errors and events caused by supply or network conditions outside the panel are excluded from this obligation. Such work is planned separately as a service job.

Details such as the visit schedule, record keeping and consumables are defined in the contract.

Summary of what is and is not covered by the Devpan maintenance contract
Situation Covered by contract Notes
Fault caused by design or manufactureYesProblems not caused by the user are resolved by Devpan during the contract term.
Problem caused by installation or connectionsYesIssues arising from commissioning and installation work are covered.
Periodic inspection visitYesVisit frequency and scope are defined in the contract.
Operating error or unauthorized intervention NoUser-caused issues are excluded and planned as a separate service job.
Network and supply events NoIssues arising from network conditions outside the panel are not covered.
Capacity increase or change of function NoThis is a new requirement and is handled as retrofit work.
Consumables and spare partsAs per contractScope and conditions are set out in the contract.
Retrofit

Retrofit and Modernization

The needs of a panel in service change over time: higher loads, new outgoing feeders, replacement of protection devices or a new automation connection. Such work is retrofit, and our service department also carries out retrofits.

A retrofit starts with a review of the existing panel and schematics, and the effect of the change on the panel’s rated values and standard compliance is assessed. Schematics and labels are updated after the change.

Because retrofits are carried out from the file of the team that built the panel, the panel’s full history remains traceable.

Basis

Applicable Standards

The TS EN / IEC 61439 series applies to low voltage switchboards and IEC 62271-200 to medium voltage switchgear. Operation, maintenance and retrofit work follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable operating regulations.

  • TS EN / IEC 61439-1/-2: General rules for low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies, and power switchgear assemblies.
  • IEC 62271-200: Metal-enclosed medium voltage switchgear above 1 kV.
  • Manufacturer’s instructions: Maintenance, tightening and periodic inspection requirements for the panel and its devices.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Devpan’s service and maintenance cover?

The service has three parts: on-site commissioning of panels, periodic maintenance under contract, and retrofit work on existing panels. Resolving problems not caused by the user during the maintenance contract is also included.

How long do maintenance contracts run?

Devpan maintenance agreements are concluded as 2-year contracts. The visit schedule and scope are defined in the contract.

Which problems does Devpan resolve during the contract?

As long as the maintenance agreement is in force, Devpan is responsible for resolving every problem on the panel that is not caused by the user. This includes issues arising from design, manufacture and installation.

Are user-caused faults also covered?

No. Operating errors, unauthorized interventions and events caused by network conditions outside the panel are excluded; such work is planned as a separate service job.

Is there a separate service for commissioning the panel?

Yes. Devpan offers a dedicated commissioning service for the panels it builds. The field team works with full knowledge of the panel’s production and engineering file.

What checks are carried out during commissioning?

Transport and positioning checks, connection and torque checks, verification of protection and metering circuits, functional tests and step-by-step energization. All work is recorded.

Do you retrofit existing panels?

Yes. Our service department carries out retrofits for needs such as higher loads, new outgoing feeders, protection device replacement or automation connection; schematics and labels are updated after the change.

How do I request service or maintenance?

Send your request through our contact channels with the panel’s rating plate details and the project name. The request is assessed using the panel’s existing file and the site visit is planned accordingly.
