Uzbekistan Opera House is a cultural building in which stage technology and audience safety are planned together. On this project Devpan manufactured the main distribution boards, the separate branches feeding the stage machinery and the lighting systems and the audience area panels.

About the Project
In opera and theatre buildings the stage is electrically the most complex part of the building. The stage machinery — scenery lifts, curtain systems, the revolving stage — are motor loads and demand movement safety. Stage lighting, in turn, consists of hundreds of dimmer channels and generates heavy harmonics.
At Uzbekistan Opera House the stage machinery is taken from a separate motor supply branch and the stage lighting from an independent branch feeding the dimmer panels. That separation prevents dimmer-generated harmonics from affecting the machinery drives. The audience area and the foyer are fed from separate branches; because of crowd evacuation, the emergency lighting and wayfinding systems are protected independently.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
The Devpan scope reaches from low voltage main distribution to the stage, audience area and technical area panels.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2,500 A class, 65 kA / 1 s, Form 4a internal separation, main distribution with bus coupler arrangement.
- Stage machinery supply branch (DevControl): Separately protected outgoing ways for the scenery lifts, curtain and revolving stage motors.
- Stage lighting branch (DevPower): An independent branch feeding the dimmer panels, segregated in terms of harmonics.
- Audience area and foyer panels (DevBox): Auditorium lighting, foyer and administrative unit supplies.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): Detuned stepped compensation suited to a stage load rich in harmonics.

Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Movement safety in stage machinery
Scenery lifts and curtain systems are moving loads that bear on human safety; the motor outgoing ways are planned together with the emergency stop chain.
Dimmer load and harmonic segregation
Hundreds of dimmer channels generate heavy harmonics. Separating the lighting branch from the machinery branch prevents the drives being affected by those harmonics.
Quiet operation requirement
During a performance the noise from the boards and the transformer must not carry into the auditorium; equipment layout and the ventilation arrangement are selected with that constraint in mind.
Audience evacuation and emergency lighting
Emergency lighting in the auditorium, the foyer and the escape corridors is protected independently and collected on the branch that stays supplied in an evacuation scenario.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are stage lighting and stage machinery fed from separate branches?
Because the character of each load harms the other. Dimmer channels generate heavy harmonics, and those harmonics can affect the measurement and control circuits of motor drives fed from the same branch. Separate branches both break that interaction and allow each system to work with its own protection logic.
What is the installed power for Uzbekistan Opera House?
For an opera and cultural building of this scale the installed power is approximately 4,800 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 3 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar rating is planned at 2 x 2,500 A and the medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV.
How is quiet operation achieved in cultural buildings?
It is achieved through equipment layout and the ventilation arrangement. Noise-producing components are placed in technical areas that do not adjoin the auditorium, and the ventilation is planned at low velocity with large-section ducts. This requires the switchboard design to be run together with the architectural and acoustic design.
