About the Project

About the Project

On a large power plant site, electrical distribution serves not only the generating units but many auxiliary facilities: pump stations, cooling water systems, workshops, administrative buildings and site infrastructure. Mersin’s hot, humid and salty coastal climate poses a corrosion risk to enclosures and connections, and high ambient temperatures mean busbar and device ratings must be derated. High fault levels across the site and strict quality documentation requirements are also core inputs to the design.

For a facility of this scale the typical solution is a medium-voltage network at 34.5 kV built with Dev24/36 modular panels, feeding a low-voltage system through transformers of approximately 4 × 2,500 kVA. Main boards with 2 × 4,000 A split busbars and 80 kA / 1 s withstand are built with Form 4b separation and IP54 protection. Motor control centres handle pump and fan motors, while generators of about 2 × 1,500 kVA help keep auxiliary systems supplied during a grid outage.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

Devpan’s scope extends from medium-voltage modular switchgear to low-voltage distribution and motor control.

  • MV modular switchgear (Dev24/36): 34.5 kV incoming, metering, transformer protection and bus coupler panels, 24 kV insulation level.
  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2 × 4,000 A, 80 kA / 1 s, Form 4b, IP54, generator transfer scheme.
  • Motor control centres (DevControl): Withdrawable feeders for pumps, fans and auxiliary equipment motors.
  • Power factor correction panels (DevComp): Detuned reactive power compensation.
  • Sub-distribution boards (DevBox): Distribution for workshops, administrative buildings and site infrastructure.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Coastal climate and corrosion

Enclosures with enhanced surface protection, gasketed doors and anti-condensation heaters are used in the salty, humid atmosphere.

Temperature derating

At high ambient temperatures busbar and breaker ratings are derated and board ventilation is sized accordingly.

High fault levels

Busbars fed by several transformers in parallel are designed for 80 kA / 1 s withstand and verified by type testing.

Documentation and traceability

For energy facilities every board comes with complete test reports, material certificates and commissioning records.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the installed power for Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant?

For the distribution within Devpan’s scope at an energy facility of this scale, the installed power is approximately 10,000 kVA with a typical transformer configuration of 4 × 2,500 kVA. The main busbar is typically rated 2 × 4,000 A with 80 kA / 1 s withstand, medium voltage is 34.5 kV (Dev24/36) and generator capacity is around 2 × 1,500 kVA.

How are Dev24/36 panels used at 34.5 kV?

Dev24/36 is a metal-enclosed modular MV switchgear family; incoming, metering, transformer protection and coupler functions are combined as modules and configured to the facility’s needs.

Why IP54 at a coastal energy facility?

IP54 protects against dust and splashing water, limiting the ingress of salty, humid air and extending component life.
