About the Project

About the Project

Military base facilities consist of service buildings, technical workshops, stores, accommodation and support structures spread over a large area, and many of them must stay operational around the clock. Adana’s long, very hot summers raise cooling loads and push up temperatures inside switchboards. Independent supply in case of grid failure, fast fault isolation and short maintenance times are the core design criteria for installations of this kind.

For facilities of this scale the typical approach is a split main distribution board of about 2 × 2,500 A fed by two transformers, with priority loads grouped on a dedicated busbar section. A generator of approximately 1,000 kVA takes over critical services through an automatic transfer scheme. Motor control centres manage pump, ventilation and cooling motors, sub-distribution boards supply the individual buildings, and compensation and lighting panels support energy efficiency.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

Devpan’s scope covers the low-voltage distribution of the base facilities, from the main board to building and motor feeders.

  • Main distribution board (DevPanel): 2 × 2,500 A split busbar with coupler, 65 kA / 1 s, Form 3b – Form 4a, priority section and generator transfer.
  • Motor control centres (DevControl): Starter and drive feeders for pump, ventilation and cooling systems.
  • Sub-distribution boards (DevBox): Distribution for service buildings, workshops and support structures.
  • Power factor correction panels (DevComp): Detuned reactive power compensation.
  • Lighting panels (DevPower): Interior, perimeter and emergency lighting circuits.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Priority load segregation

Critical service loads are grouped on a separate busbar section; when the generator runs only this section is supplied, making efficient use of its capacity.

Hot-climate design

Busbar and device ratings are derated for high summer temperatures and electrical room ventilation is planned accordingly.

Fast fault isolation

Selective protection coordination ensures that a fault in one building trips only the relevant feeder.

Perimeter lighting

Perimeter and security lighting is fed from separate, generator-backed and time-controlled circuits.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the installed power for Incirlik Air Base?

For military base facilities of this scale the installed power is approximately 3,200 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 2 × 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is typically rated 2 × 2,500 A, the medium voltage is 34.5 kV and the generator is around 1 × 1,000 kVA.

How does the generator transfer work?

When mains voltage is lost, the automatic transfer scheme starts the generator and supplies the priority busbar section within seconds; when the grid returns, the load is transferred back in a controlled way.

What role does the MCC play at base facilities?

Starters for pump, fan and cooling motors are grouped in one place, simplifying fault finding and maintenance and allowing motors to be monitored centrally.
