Turkmenistan Park Project — Public Realm Switchboard Application

Turkmenistan Park Project is an application in which a large public area is equipped with lighting, irrigation and water features. On this project Devpan delivered a scope reaching from Dev24/36 medium voltage switchgear through to the outdoor lighting panels.

About the Project

About the Project

In public park areas the electrical infrastructure operates entirely outdoors. Panels, cable routes and supply points are directly exposed to rain, dust, sunlight and temperature swings. On top of that, because the area is open to the public, preventing unauthorised access and ensuring safety from contact come to the fore.

At the Turkmenistan Park Project the supply is taken from points distributed across the site. The medium voltage side is resolved with Dev24/36 switchgear; as the Turkmenistan network structure requires, the medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV. In the outdoor field panels the degree of protection is raised and the locking system is selected to prevent unauthorised access. Lighting, irrigation and water feature pumps are collected on separate branches and controlled on a scenario basis.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from the medium voltage switchgear to the outdoor lighting and pump panels.

  • Medium voltage switchgear (Dev24/36): Metal-enclosed modular cubicles rated at 24 kV insulation level with a 630 A busbar, arranged as incomer, metering and transformer outgoing units.
  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 1,600 A class, 50 kA / 1 s main distribution.
  • Outdoor lighting panels (DevPower): Walkway, landscape and architectural lighting branches with staged, scenario-based control.
  • Irrigation and water feature pump panels (DevBox): Outdoor enclosures with residual current protection, at IP54 – IP65 degree of protection.
  • Power factor correction (DevComp): Small-step stepped compensation suited to a light and variable load.

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

A switchboard family operating fully outdoors

Because every panel sits outdoors the degree of protection is raised; the gasket arrangement, the cable entry sealing and the enclosure heater are planned together.

Access safety in an area open to the public

Panel doors are fitted with a special-key locking system; enclosure positions are chosen to keep maintenance access easy while making unauthorised access difficult.

Safety in the water feature and irrigation circuits

The supply branches of the pool, fountain and irrigation pumps are equipped with residual current protection; equipotential bonding is arranged to cover the metal structural elements.

A design integrated with the medium voltage switchgear

The transformer protection settings in the Dev24/36 cubicles and the low voltage main breaker meet in a single discrimination plan.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does switchboard design differ in public park areas?

It differs on three points: because every panel operates outdoors, the degree of protection and the surface treatment are raised; in an area open to the public a locking system that prevents unauthorised access is used; and residual current protection becomes standard in the water feature and irrigation circuits.

What is the installed power for the Turkmenistan Park Project?

For a public realm application of this scale the installed power is approximately 2,500 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 2 x 1,250 kVA. The main busbar rating is planned at 2 x 1,600 A and the medium voltage side is resolved at 10 kV with Dev24/36 switchgear.

When is IP65 required in outdoor field panels?

It is required in positions exposed to direct water jets or to heavy dust carry, for example in the pump panels near the water features. While IP54 is sufficient for most outdoor applications, the degree of protection is raised to IP65 in panels on the edge of a wet zone.
