About the Project
On a technology campus most of the load comes from non-linear consumers such as computers, server rooms, network equipment and LED lighting. These loads generate third harmonics that stress the neutral conductor, and they are sensitive to poor power quality. Nizhny Novgorod’s continental climate brings cold winters and warm summers, so HVAC demand swings throughout the year. For a campus of this scale the installed power is typically around 3,200 kVA. Because teams and floor layouts change frequently, the distribution system also has to be flexible and open to expansion.
In the typical architecture, two 1,600 kVA transformers fed from the 10 kV network connect to a 2 × 2,500 A main board with a bus coupler. Server and network rooms are supplied through separate feeders via uninterruptible power supplies, and a 1 × 1,000 kVA generator backs up these critical circuits and life-safety systems. Spare ways are left in the floor boards so that layout changes can be handled without replacing switchgear. Detuned power factor correction and upsized neutral conductors limit the effect of non-linear loads.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
Devpan supplied the low-voltage switchboard infrastructure from the campus main distribution to the office floors.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2 × 2,500 A, 65 kA / 1 s, two sections with bus coupler and generator changeover.
- Floor and server room boards (DevBox): Sub-distribution for office floors, labs and UPS output circuits.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): Automatic stepped, detuned reactive power compensation.
- Lighting and power panels (DevPower): Lighting and socket circuits for offices and shared areas.

Devpan Products Used in This Project
Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Neutral sizing and harmonics
Because computers and LED drivers produce third harmonics, neutral conductors are sized equal to or larger than the phase conductors.
Server room supply
Server and network rooms are fed by separate UPS- and generator-backed circuits, kept apart from general office loads.
Flexible floor distribution
Spare ways in the floor boards allow quick response to team moves and layout changes.
Energy metering
Building- and floor-level metering lets the operator track consumption and monitor efficiency targets.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the installed power for a campus like Nizhny Novgorod IT Campus?
For a technology campus of this scale the installed power is approximately 3,200 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 2 × 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is typically 2 × 2,500 A with a 65 kA / 1 s rating, supplied at 10 kV medium voltage.
Why should power factor correction be detuned on a tech campus?
Computers, servers and LED drivers produce harmonics, and plain capacitors can resonate with them. Detuned compensation removes this risk.
How can the switchboards grow with the campus?
Main and floor boards are designed with spare ways; a typical 15 – 20 percent reserve lets new teams and spaces be supplied without replacing switchboards.
