Tajikistan TG Medical Clinic — Clinic Switchboard Project

Tajikistan TG Medical Clinic is a healthcare clinic housing outpatient, imaging and minor procedure units. On this project Devpan manufactured the main distribution boards, the departmental panels and the separately protected branches feeding the imaging equipment.

About the Project

About the Project

Healthcare buildings at clinic scale have a lower installed power than a hospital, yet they call for similar care in terms of continuity and measurement quality. Imaging equipment draws a pulsed load and is susceptible to voltage fluctuation, while laboratory instruments expect a continuous supply.

At Tajikistan TG Medical Clinic the imaging equipment is collected on a separate branch, and that branch is sized to carry the short-duration high current draw. A generator-backed supply is planned for the minor procedure rooms. The medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV. Because of the scale of the clinic a single-transformer arrangement is preferred, and the main distribution is built with a simplicity to match.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from low voltage main distribution to the departmental panels.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2,000 A class, 50 kA / 1 s, main distribution with Form 3b – 4a internal separation.
  • Imaging equipment supply branch: A separately protected outgoing way sized for a pulsed load.
  • Procedure room and laboratory branches: Generator-backed, separately protected supply.
  • Departmental and floor panels (DevBox): Outpatient, administrative and waiting area panels.
  • Power factor correction (DevComp) and lighting (DevPower): Detuned compensation suited to a pulsed load, internal and external lighting circuits.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Pulsed load of imaging equipment

X-ray and CT equipment draws a short-duration high current at the moment of exposure. The supply branch is sized for that pulse; otherwise the voltage drop affects image quality.

Continuity in a single-transformer arrangement

At clinic scale a single transformer is mostly used; continuity is provided by the generator and uninterruptible power supply layers.

Protection in minor procedure rooms

In the procedure rooms the residual current protection thresholds and the earthing arrangement are determined in line with the medical location classification.

Compact main distribution

At clinic scale the switchroom is limited; the main distribution is built with a simple architecture, front access and a compact enclosure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the supply to imaging equipment sized?

It is sized against the short-duration peak current at the moment of exposure, not against average consumption. Cross-section and protection are selected to carry that peak; otherwise the voltage drop during exposure affects both image quality and equipment life.

What is the installed power for Tajikistan TG Medical Clinic?

For a healthcare clinic of this scale the installed power is approximately 1,600 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 1 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar rating is planned at 2,000 A and the medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV.

What is the difference between clinic and hospital design?

The scale and the number of layers differ. A hospital has more than one transformer, a bus coupler and a medical IT system for group 2 locations; a clinic generally manages with a single transformer and a simpler distribution. The continuity needs of the imaging and procedure units, however, are addressed with the same rigour at both scales.
