Taksim 360 is an urban regeneration and mixed-use development in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, carried out within a historic urban fabric and combining residential and commercial units. Devpan manufactured the main distribution, sub-distribution, compensation and lighting panels with enclosure dimensions adapted to restricted, fragmented plant rooms.

About the Project
Urban regeneration projects present a different engineering problem from new-build developments. City blocks are independent of each other, plant rooms are usually limited to whatever the existing structure allows, and cable routes must be planned without intervening in the historic fabric.
At Taksim 360 the distribution architecture is built around those constraints. Instead of one very large main board, a distribution structure split across several supply points is preferred, with each block managed independently. Mechanical details such as enclosure depth, door swing direction and busbar entry orientation are determined project by project according to the dimensions of the existing plant rooms.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
The Devpan scope reaches from block-level main distribution boards down to the metering panels of individual units. Optimising enclosure size without lowering the form of separation is the central design objective here.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 1,600 A class, Form 3b internal separation, compact enclosure depth.
- Sub-distribution and metering panels (DevBox): Metering per block, with residential and commercial consumers kept separate.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): Automatic stepped compensation matched to the variable load profile of the retail units.
- Lighting and power panels (DevPower): Street, façade and common area lighting circuits plus emergency lighting supply.
- Site coordination: Transport and plant room installation sequence planned before manufacturing, given the narrow streets on site.

Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Restricted plant room volume
The existing building geometry limits panel depth. Busbar support spacing and cable termination volume are re-dimensioned so that enclosure depth is reduced while Form 3b internal separation is preserved.
Separating residential and commercial loads
Ground floor retail units and upper floor dwellings have different load profiles. Metering and protection stages are arranged so that both use types can be monitored independently.
Discrimination across a fragmented layout
Where several supply points exist, a separate short-circuit study is produced for each branch; coordination between block boards is then consolidated into a single discrimination table.
Historic fabric and cable routing
Cable entry direction and cross-section are planned to suit existing duct capacities, and the cable compartment of each board is positioned accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is switchboard design different in urban regeneration projects?
Because plant room dimensions and cable routes are dictated by the existing structure. In new buildings the plant room is designed around the switchboard; in regeneration projects the switchboard is designed around the available volume, which means enclosure depth, busbar layout and cable entry direction must be reconsidered for each project.
What is the installed power for Taksim 360?
At the scale of Taksim 360 the installed power is approximately 2,500 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 2 x 1,250 kVA and a main busbar rating in the order of 2 x 1,600 A.
Is Form 3b sufficient for mixed-use projects?
For medium-scale distribution boards serving a combination of residential and commercial use, Form 3b is sufficient in most cases. Form 4a or Form 4b is preferred where maintenance must be carried out with the board energised, or where critical continuity is required.
