Torunlar 5. Levent is a high-rise mixed-use development on Istanbul’s Levent financial axis, combining residences, offices and retail units within a single scheme. Devpan supplied the complete low voltage switchboard family for the project — from main distribution boards to block and floor sub-distribution boards, power factor correction and lighting panels — verified to IEC 61439-1 / -2.

About the Project
In high-rise residential developments the electrical problem is not a single large load, but hundreds of independent consumers fed safely from one backbone. Every dwelling must be metered correctly, common-area loads must be grouped on a separate branch, and any fault must remain confined to the block or floor where it occurs.
At Torunlar 5. Levent this requirement combines with tower height and vertical distribution distance. Voltage drop along the rising mains, the starting currents of lift and booster pump motors, car park jet fan groups and the life safety loads that must survive a fire scenario are all addressed within a single discrimination study. The switchboard architecture follows that study: high short-circuit withstand at main distribution level, accessibility and metering convenience at floor level.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
The Devpan scope covers the low voltage distribution chain from the transformer outgoing side down to the apartment panels. Single-line and general arrangement design, component selection, manufacturing follow-up and site coordination are carried out by the same engineering team.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 3,200 A class main distribution built on a compartment logic, with separate busbar and cable compartments and withdrawable or fixed breaker cubicles.
- Generator changeover: Automatic mains–generator transfer arrangement and segregation of life safety loads.
- Block and floor sub-distribution boards (DevBox): Sub-distribution stage fed from the rising mains, collecting meters and consumer outgoing ways.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): Automatic stepped compensation with 7% detuned reactors, eliminating the risk of reactive energy penalties.
- Lighting and power panels (DevPower): Common area lighting, car park, landscape and emergency lighting circuits.

Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Discrimination and short-circuit coordination
The prospective short-circuit current calculated from transformer rating and cable impedances calls for a 65 kA / 1 s class main busbar. Breaker tripping curves are graded so that a fault in a floor panel never trips the incoming device.
Metering and consumer arrangement
Separate metering is planned for each dwelling and a dedicated branch for common areas. Power analysers and current transformers at main distribution level make consumption visible per block.
Fire scenario and life safety loads
Fire pumps, smoke extraction fans, emergency lighting and the firefighting lift are segregated onto a dedicated branch that keeps its supply during a fire event.
Harmonics and reactive power management
Lift drives, LED lighting and UPS loads generate harmonics. Detuned compensation is therefore used so that capacitor stages cannot enter resonance with the 5th and 7th harmonics.
Frequently Asked Questions
What main busbar rating is typical for a residence of this scale?
At this scale main distribution boards are typically designed between 2,500 A and 4,000 A. For Torunlar 5. Levent the configuration is a 2 x 3,200 A main busbar. The determining factor is not total installed power alone, but the diversity factor and the number of transformers.
Why must compensation be detuned in residential projects?
Because modern residential loads are harmonic-rich. Lift drives, LED drivers and UPS units feed 5th and 7th harmonics; undetuned capacitor stages resonate with them and stress both themselves and the installation. A 7% detuned reactor removes that resonance risk.
Which Devpan products were used on this project?
The project combines DevPanel main distribution boards, DevBox block and floor sub-distribution boards, DevComp compensation panels and DevPower lighting and power panels. All assemblies are verified within the scope of IEC 61439-1 / -2.
