Ataşehir Marriott Hotel — City Hotel Switchboard Project

Ataşehir Marriott Hotel is a city hotel on the business district axis, with substantial meeting and event capacity. On this project Devpan manufactured the main distribution boards, the floor and guest room block boards, and the separately metered branches feeding the kitchen and the ballroom.

About the Project

About the Project

In city hotels the load profile swings noticeably over the course of the day. Guest room groups and the breakfast kitchen peak in the morning, the meeting rooms at midday, and the ballroom and restaurant in the evening. When those swings are collected on a single branch, neither metering nor power factor correction can be arranged correctly.

At Ataşehir Marriott the loads are separated according to the area they serve. The guest room blocks have their own branch, the kitchen and laundry a second, and the meeting rooms and ballrooms a third that also covers the stage lighting and the sound system. Because the ballroom lighting is controlled by dimmer drivers following stage scenes, the harmonic profile of that branch is addressed separately.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from main distribution to the guest room floor boards and the kitchen and event area supplies.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2,500 A class, 65 kA / 1 s, main distribution with bus coupler arrangement.
  • Guest room floor boards (DevBox): Separately protected supply and local metering for each room group.
  • Kitchen and laundry branch: Separately metered and separately protected supply for high-power technical areas.
  • Ballroom and meeting area panels (DevPower): Stage lighting, dimmer supply and sound system circuits.
  • Motor control (DevControl) and power factor correction (DevComp): Chiller groups, ventilation and detuned compensation.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Load separation by area

Guest room blocks, the kitchen and the event areas are collected on separate branches. That separation lets the operator follow consumption area by area and allows the compensation to be sized correctly.

The character of the kitchen load

Ovens, dishwashers and cold room compressors draw high currents for short periods. The kitchen branch is sized for that pulsed character and protected separately.

Dimmers and stage lighting

Ballroom lighting is controlled by dimmer drivers, and those drivers generate harmonics. The branch is protected separately and the compensation is selected with detuned reactors.

Guest comfort and voltage quality

In-room lighting and air conditioning comfort depend on voltage quality. Cable cross-sections are selected so that the voltage drop stays below the limit value.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are loads separated by area in hotel projects?

Because the load character and the operating hours of each area differ. Guest room blocks run continuously but at low intensity, the kitchen is pulsed and high-powered, and the event areas are intermittent and rich in harmonics. Separate branches arrange both metering and protection correctly.

What is the installed power at Ataşehir Marriott Hotel?

A city hotel of this scale has an installed power of approximately 3,200 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 2 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is rated at 2 x 2,500 A with a short-time withstand current of 65 kA / 1 s.

Why does a hotel kitchen need a branch of its own?

For two reasons: the kitchen is the hotel’s highest-powered and most pulsed load, and the operator follows kitchen consumption separately as a cost item. A dedicated branch also prevents a fault in the kitchen from affecting the guest room blocks.
