İş GYO Financial Centre — Financial Centre Switchboard Project

İş GYO Financial Centre is an office development where financial institutions sit side by side and a high level of continuity is required. On this project Devpan supplied the Form 4b main distribution boards withstanding 80 kA / 1 s, the uninterruptible supply branches and the motor control centres.

About the Project

About the Project

In financial centres the tenant profile expects higher continuity than in a standard office building. Trading systems, data rooms and redundant communications infrastructure are systems in which a power interruption translates directly into cost. Distribution is therefore built on an architecture in which redundancy is maintained at every stage.

At the İş GYO Financial Centre the high transformer capacity raises the prospective short-circuit current to the order of 80 kA, and the busbar system is verified against that value. The main distribution works in a dual incomer and bus coupler arrangement. Every tenant branch carries its own metering and the data room supplies are collected on the uninterruptible busbar. The cooling plant is fed from a separate motor control centre.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from main distribution to the tenant panels, the data room supplies and the mechanical services motor control centres.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 4,000 A class, withstanding 80 kA / 1 s, Form 4b internal separation, main distribution with dual incomers and bus coupler.
  • Motor control centres (DevControl): Variable frequency drive outgoing ways for cooling plant, pump and fan motors.
  • Tenant and floor panels (DevBox): Tenant-level metering, data room and communications cabinet supplies.
  • Uninterruptible supply branches: Supply for trading systems and data rooms collected on a dedicated busbar.
  • Power factor correction (DevComp) and lighting (DevPower): Detuned compensation, common area and façade lighting.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

80 kA class busbar verification

High capacity transformers running in parallel raise the short-circuit current. Busbar cross-section, support spacing and mechanical strength are calculated against the 80 kA / 1 s value.

Redundancy at every stage

Dual incomers, a bus coupler and dual branches for critical loads keep redundancy in place not only at main distribution but at the stages below it as well.

Tenant-level metering and reporting

Every tenant outgoing way carries a current transformer and a power analyser; the data is transferred to the building management system so that reporting on a contractual basis can be produced.

Cooling plant and harmonics

Cooling plant driven by variable frequency drives generates harmonics; compensation is specified with detuned reactors and provision is left for an active filter where required.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is redundancy arranged in financial centres?

Redundancy is maintained at every stage: dual incomers and a bus coupler at main distribution, dual branches able to be fed from two separate busbars for critical loads, and a busbar backed by an uninterruptible power supply in the data rooms. Building redundancy only at main distribution does not prevent a single fault at a lower stage from affecting a tenant.

What is the installed power at the İş GYO Financial Centre?

A financial centre of this scale has an installed power of approximately 8,000 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 4 x 2,000 kVA. The main busbar is rated at 2 x 4,000 A with a short-time withstand current of 80 kA / 1 s.

Why does the short-circuit current reach such a high value?

Because the short-circuit current is determined by transformer rating and impedance. When high capacity transformers run in parallel the total impedance falls and the prospective short-circuit current rises rapidly. At points close to the substation this value can reach the order of 80 kA.

Do you have a project of a similar scale?

Send us your single-line diagram, your transformer rating or simply your load list. Our engineering team runs the short-circuit and discrimination study and defines the form of separation and busbar cross-section with you.
