Sur Yapı Excellence is a multi-block residential development with a high number of dwellings. Devpan produced the 3,200 A class main distribution boards, the rising main outgoing ways, the block metering panels and the compensation systems.

About the Project
As the number of dwellings grows, the real issue in residential projects is not total power but diversity and metering. The assumption that hundreds of consumers will not draw peak load simultaneously governs transformer selection, while the requirement that each consumer be measured correctly and that a fault not reach the neighbouring dwelling governs the distribution architecture.
At Sur Yapı Excellence the main boards operate with a bus coupler and the blocks are balanced across two separate busbars. Rising mains are sized to carry the starting currents of lift and booster pump motors. Circuits that must remain energised in a fire scenario are physically segregated from normal loads.
Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture
The Devpan scope covers the low voltage chain from the transformer outgoing side to the apartment panels. Load balance between blocks and the arrangement of rising main outgoing ways sit at the centre of the design.
- Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 3,200 A class, 65 kA / 1 s withstand, with bus coupler arrangement.
- Rising main outgoing ways: Separately protected feeders distributed with load balance in mind, one per block.
- Block and floor metering panels (DevBox): Consumer metering and floor distribution.
- Power factor correction (DevComp): Automatic stepped compensation with 7% detuned reactors.
- Life safety circuits (DevPower): Fire pump, smoke extraction, emergency lighting and firefighting lift supplies.

Project-Specific Engineering Topics
Diversity factor and transformer selection
The assumption that hundreds of dwellings will not peak together reduces transformer rating well below total connected load. Choosing the factor too optimistically, however, overloads the transformer at summer peak.
Load balance through the bus coupler
Blocks are distributed evenly across two busbars. If a transformer is lost, load can be transferred through the coupler, while interlocking prevents all three breakers from being closed at once.
Starting currents of motor loads
Lift and booster pump groups create transient current peaks on the rising main. Breaker tripping curves are selected so that these transients are not interpreted as faults.
Physical segregation of fire circuits
Life safety branches are planned in a separate compartment, on a separate cable route and with protection independent of normal loads, so their supply continues during a fire.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the diversity factor matter in multi-block residential schemes?
Because transformer rating is derived from it. The total connected load of hundreds of dwellings is never drawn at the same moment, and the diversity factor gives the realistic peak. Set too low it oversizes the transformer; set too high it overloads it at summer peak.
What are the installed power and main busbar rating here?
A residential development of this scale has an installed power of approximately 6,400 kVA, with a typical configuration of 4 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is rated at 2 x 3,200 A with a short-time withstand current of 65 kA / 1 s.
Is a bus coupler necessary in residential projects?
It is necessary wherever more than one transformer is installed. The coupler allows load to be transferred to the other busbar in a controlled way when a transformer is taken out for maintenance or lost, so the whole development is not left without supply.
