Sur Yapı Muhit — Phased Residential Switchboard Application

Sur Yapı Muhit is a residential project delivered in phases. Devpan designed the switchboard family as a single type design repeatable across every phase, producing the main distribution, block sub-distribution, compensation and lighting panels to one common standard.

About the Project

About the Project

In phased projects the electrical infrastructure has to solve one problem above all: the first phase must work on the same logic as the last. When phase one is energised the rest of the site is still under construction, yet main distribution must already be sized for the load of every future phase.

At Sur Yapı Muhit the main board is designed for the final installed power while its outgoing ways are commissioned phase by phase. Space and busbar capacity are reserved for the unused outgoing ways, so later phases can be added without intervening in the main board. Block panels are manufactured with the same enclosure and the same component list throughout.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from main distribution sized for final capacity to the phase-based block panels. Expandability is the starting point of the design.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 2,500 A class, 65 kA / 1 s, with empty outgoing compartments and busbar capacity reserved for future phases.
  • Block sub-distribution boards (DevBox): Sub-distribution built to the same enclosure and labelling standard in every phase.
  • Power factor correction (DevComp): Modular compensation to which stages are added as phases come online.
  • Lighting and power panels (DevPower): Common area, car park and landscape lighting circuits.
  • Documentation: Single-line diagrams, label schedules and test reports in the same format across all phases.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Sizing for final capacity

Busbar and breaker selection follows the load of the completed project rather than the first phase; otherwise the main board has to be replaced entirely in the final phase.

Adding outgoing ways under load

Empty compartments and busbar connection points are reserved for later phases, so a new feeder can be added without de-energising the rest of the site.

Modular compensation

Compensation power is kept low in the first phase and stages are added as the site grows. This reduces the initial investment and avoids over-compensation at light load.

Standardisation between phases

The same enclosure, component brands and labelling convention are used throughout, so site management works with one maintenance procedure and one spare part list.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How should the main board be sized in a phased project?

It should always be sized for the final installed power of the project. A main busbar selected only for the first phase runs out of capacity later and has to be replaced completely, which means both cost and a long outage.

What is reserved in the board for later phases?

Three things: an empty outgoing compartment, the busbar connection point serving it, and the cable entry volume. With all three reserved, the feeder for a new phase can be added without de-energising the existing site.

What is the installed power at Sur Yapı Muhit?

A residential project of this scale has an installed power of approximately 4,800 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 3 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is rated at 2 x 2,500 A.

Do you have a project of a similar scale?

Send us your single-line diagram, your transformer rating or simply your load list. Our engineering team runs the short-circuit and discrimination study and defines the form of separation and busbar cross-section with you.
