Türkiye İş Bankası — Bank and Office Building Switchboard Project

Türkiye İş Bankası occupies a management and service building in which banking operations must continue without interruption. On this project Devpan manufactured the main distribution boards with Form 4b internal separation, the uninterruptible power supply and generator branches and the data centre supplies.

About the Project

About the Project

In bank buildings the measure of the electrical infrastructure is not comfort but transaction continuity. Branch and head office operations, core banking systems, the security infrastructure and the vault equipment are loads with no tolerance of interruption. Distribution therefore treats redundancy as a requirement rather than a design preference.

On the Türkiye İş Bankası project the main distribution works in a dual incomer and bus coupler arrangement. The data centre and the communications rooms are fed from the uninterruptible power supply output, on a dedicated busbar. The security systems, the camera infrastructure and the vault locking mechanisms sit on the generator-backed branch. Form 4b internal separation guarantees that banking operations do not stop while maintenance is carried out on one branch.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from main distribution to the floor panels and the data centre and security supplies. Segregation of the continuity layers is the basis of the design.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 3,200 A class, 65 kA / 1 s, Form 4b internal separation, main distribution with dual incomers and bus coupler.
  • Uninterruptible power supply and generator branches: Normal, generator-backed and uninterruptible supplies collected on separate busbars.
  • Data centre supply panels (DevBox): Distribution with circuit-level metering for server and communications cabinets.
  • Security and vault branch: Separately protected supply for cameras, card access and locking mechanisms.
  • Motor control (DevControl) and power factor correction (DevComp): Cooling plant, ventilation and detuned compensation.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Dual incomers and interlocking logic

In an arrangement of two incomers and one bus coupler, the interlocking logic prevents all three breakers from being closed at the same time; critical loads can be fed from either busbar.

A dedicated busbar for the data centre

Server and communications cabinets are fed from the uninterruptible power supply output. This busbar is physically separated from normal loads and monitored with circuit-level metering.

Continuity of the security infrastructure

Cameras, card access and the vault locking mechanisms sit on the generator-backed branch, so no security weakness arises during a mains outage.

Uninterrupted operation with Form 4b

Separating every outgoing unit together with its own cable termination volume keeps the other banking systems energised while maintenance is carried out on a single branch.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which loads are fed from an uninterruptible supply in bank buildings?

Three groups: the server and communications cabinets housing the core banking systems, the security infrastructure and the vault locking mechanisms. Because even the few seconds until the generator takes over are unacceptable for these loads, a separate busbar backed by an uninterruptible power supply is used.

What is the installed power on the Türkiye İş Bankası project?

A bank and office building of this scale has an installed power of approximately 6,400 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 4 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar is rated at 2 x 3,200 A with a short-time withstand current of 65 kA / 1 s.

Why is Form 4b preferred in banking buildings?

Because operations must not stop. With Form 4b internal separation every outgoing unit is separated both in its own compartment and in its own cable termination volume, so the other systems stay energised while maintenance is carried out on a single branch and banking transactions continue uninterrupted.
