Uzbekistan Expo — Exhibition and Fair Complex Switchboard Project

Uzbekistan Expo is an exhibition complex that brings exhibition halls and open-air event areas together on one site. On this project Devpan manufactured the main distribution boards, the pavilion and open-air supply panels and the enclosure solutions suited to a dry, hot climate.

About the Project

About the Project

In exhibition complexes with open-air event areas the distribution is not confined to the enclosed halls. The stage, performance and catering points in the open air create temporary but high-power loads, and those loads change with the season and the event programme.

At Uzbekistan Expo the open-air supply points are taken from panels distributed across the site. The degree of protection in those panels is raised and dust ingress is limited; because of the dry and dusty climate, filtered ventilation is preferred. In the enclosed halls a pavilion-based supply and metering arrangement is set up. The medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV and the peak load occurs during the event periods.

Scope

Devpan Scope and Switchboard Architecture

The Devpan scope reaches from low voltage main distribution to the pavilion and open-air supply panels.

  • Main distribution boards (DevPanel): 3,200 A class, 65 kA / 1 s, Form 4a – 4b internal separation, main distribution with bus coupler arrangement.
  • Pavilion supply panels (DevBox): Separately protected and metered supply points per pavilion.
  • Open-air supply panels: Raised degree of protection against dust ingress and filtered ventilation.
  • Stage and event branches (DevPower): Separately protected outgoing ways for temporary stage, sound and lighting systems.
  • Power factor correction (DevComp) and motor control (DevControl): Stepped compensation, ventilation and cooling sets.

Engineering

Project-Specific Engineering Topics

Open-air supply points

Panels distributed across the site allow the temporary stage and catering points to draw power; each point is separately protected and provided with residual current protection.

Protection and ventilation in a dusty environment

In a dry and dusty climate the degree of protection is raised; filtered ventilation is used to maintain heat dissipation in a sealed enclosure and filter maintenance is put on a schedule.

Managing temporary loads

The temporary loads that come into service during events are collected on separate branches; at the end of an event those branches can be switched out completely.

Stage lighting and harmonics

Stage lighting is controlled by dimmer drivers and generates harmonics; that branch is protected separately and the compensation is specified with detuned reactors.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the supply planned for open-air events?

Supply panels distributed across the site are installed. The degree of protection in those panels is raised to suit outdoor conditions and all the outgoing ways are provided with residual current protection. Because a temporary installation may not match the quality of a permanent one, keeping the point of protection on the supply side is essential.

What is the installed power for Uzbekistan Expo?

For an exhibition and fair complex of this scale the installed power is approximately 6,400 kVA, with a typical transformer configuration of 4 x 1,600 kVA. The main busbar rating is planned at 2 x 3,200 A and the medium voltage inside the site is at 10 kV.

Why is filtered ventilation necessary in a dusty environment?

Raising the degree of protection limits dust ingress but makes it harder to remove the heat inside the panel. Filtered ventilation meets both requirements at once: the air circulation continues while the dust is retained in the filter. Periodic replacement of the filters becomes part of the maintenance plan.
